About Gateway Theater
The Gateway Theater at the Copernicus Center is a one-of-a-kind venue — the last remaining atmospheric-style theater in Chicago. Originally opened in 1930 and designed by renowned architect Mason Rapp of the legendary Rapp & Rapp firm, this beautifully restored theater brings timeless elegance together with cutting-edge technology.
Located in the heart of Jefferson Park, once known as the “Gateway to Chicago” the Gateway Theater was preserved by the Copernicus Foundation and transformed into a premier destination for live performances, screenings, and special events. GATEWAY lounge
Chicago’s newest live music venue, the Gateway Lounge, offers an intimate listening room designed for cabaret, jazz, blues, and Latin music. With its warm atmosphere and beautiful wooden dance floor, the Lounge has quickly become home to the Gateway Dancers and lively Salsa Nights. During larger events in the historic Gateway Theater, the Lounge also transforms into an elegant cocktail space — the perfect spot to enjoy handcrafted drinks, great company, and the vibrant sounds of Chicago’s music scene.
